As I was working on some projects this morning, in the back of my mind I was mulling over this week’s blog entry. Since my blog is about website tools and tips, I had a thought – what tools are our clients using? So I went out to our master list of sites and started looking around. My plan was to find some great looking sites that use our free templates. I was eager to find one site that really jumped out at me.
The first great site I found was an undercover ACS site. Unbeknownst to me, our staff is working on a prototype site for some upcoming projects – that will be EXCITING to show off. But, I am told that now isn’t the time for that because it’s tip-top secret at the moment We’ll have to keep our ears open. But from the glimpses I got – it’s looking really good! As fun as that was to find, it wasn’t quite what I wanted.
I wanted to find a site that looks great and then I wanted to get the webmaster’s perspective – some tips and tricks of the trade from inside a church! After searching through a few sites, I was amazed by how the webmaster at College Church in Northampton, MA, had reconditioned the free template by adding his own spice and simple code to personalize the site. I looked up their account, and low-and-behold, their webmaster turns out to also be the church’s Associate Pastor! I thought – wow! This is perfect! So he and I connected and talked for a while. I introduced myself to him and began discussing the site and what tools he used. He had some great ideas!
Here are some of the tools that Chris-the-Associate-Pastor/Webmaster used to juice up his free Extend template. The site is still a work in progress, but you will see that he’s doing a great job using Extend. I really hope that some of the resources and tools that he shared with me are helpful in your daily routine and maintenance of your site.

Thanks to Scott for chatting with me last month and just wanted to give an update that the site is fully live now and available at http://www.thecollegechurch.org for any who are interested. I’ve also updated our CSS file with a few comments which may be helpful for any others interested in modifying the Majestic template.
God bless,
Chris
