The ACS R&D Team is expanding!

The goal of R&D at ACS Technologies  is to bring well conceived, well implemented, and well timed applications to the faith based market.  As the software needs of our customers evolve, the organization of R&D and the processes we use must evolve too.  This has occured many times since the founded was established in 1978.   I remember when there was one job title in R&D, Programmer, and there were only three of us!

Today we have a staff of sixty three working in development.  This includes eight basic job titles each broken into as many as five levels.    This week we established two new roles in R&D: Programming Manager and Product Owner.

The Program Manager is responsible for leading teams of software devlopers.  This includes providing technnical advice on all project and mentoring devleopers along their career path.  This position focuses on continual improvement of developer’s knowledge, skill, and overall productivity.

The Product Owner is responsible for setting the overall development goals for a software application.  This includes establishing the high level vision for the product, managing the return on investment for development, and setting the priority for building the right solutions in the right order.  The Product Owner provides one voice to the development team regarding the needs of the market.
